Mark was born in Ontario and spent 20 years in Montreal, where he completed undergraduate studies at McGill University. He relocated to BC in 1986 and has worked for the provincial government since. He is married to Henriette, together they have several children who are now adults. Apart from 6 years living further north from Victoria on Vancouver Island, Mark has been an active participant at SBF since 1986 and has chaired both the Leadership Team and the deacons over the past several years.
Linda and I met in the UK and have two children. Now in the grandparent phase of life we are recently retired. We came to SBF after decades in several churches, mostly Anglican, and soon appreciated its teaching for heart and mind. We enjoy the sense of family here - these days I most desire to see an ever-increasingly supportive, connected family at SBF.
Alan was born and raised a missionary kid in India. After university in Edmonton, he and Bev spent many years teaching around the globe. The family came to the Victoria area and joined SBF in 1990 as Alan got his Masters degree in Biblical Studies at Regent College. Alan has painted many houses, while occasionally preaching and teaching Bible classes at churches in the area. He and Bev have two awesome kids, both of whom are married and together have blessed Alan and Bev with 5 grandchildren.
Mark grew up as a preacher's kid in the Maritimes, and spent some of his childhood years in India when his parents were missionaries there. He has retired from his career in health administration, and is enjoying four adult children with his wife Karen and a growing number of grandchildren. He also shares a heart for joining with SBF in the missional journey, seeking to connect with our community to share good news in meaningful and tangible ways.
Garry was born and raised on Vancouver Island. He left the Island to attend school at UBC and returned in 1985 with wife, Lynette. They have two children and two grandchildren. Garry's varied career as an Engineer was primarily characterized by God providing for his small company and therefore enabling him to retire from it in 2003. He then did some part time work with the National Research Council of Canada but was primarily working in Business as Mission in the 10-40 window. He did that for 10 years while visiting 20 countries to assist missionaries in building up their companies for the benefit of the local peoples and to spread the gospel. He has attended SBF for 35 years while participating in many roles there. His passion is to encourage God's people to use their gifts to further God's global Kingdom and to bless each other.
Born and raised in Ontario, Cathy graduated from Ontario Bible College (now Tyndale University). She met Steve at University of Waterloo (he was engineering, she was psychology so they would never have met apart from InterVarsity and church connections). They were married in 1982 and lived in Edmonton where Cathy received her Masters in counselling psychology and became a therapist. They moved to Saanichton in 1990 and started attending SBF because it was close by AND it was Keith and Rosemary Price’s home church (so it had to be solid!) Steve and Cathy have both been widely involved in the SBF community since they arrived with a one year old decades ago. They now have two grown children, one with a baby on the way, and one son-in-law on the way.
Born and raised in Duncan, Peter has spent the majority of his career in the Royal Canadian Navy who sent him first to Halifax and then to Ottawa and Kingston. During this time they enjoyed raising five kids and are well into the grandparenting phase of their life. Returning to the west (best) coast in 2015, Peter and Kelly settled in Saanichton and joined SBF. Starting out in the Presbyterian Church, God led them to experience the Lutheran Church, a independent non-denominational church (with a Pentecostal background), a Vineyard Church, an Alliance Church and now SBF that has a Brethren origin. Peter is serving as a Board Director with Youth For Christ - Victoria, volunteers in the Blue Bus ministry at local First Nations, at Camp Imadene as a burgeoning cook (grill top speciality) and with Saanich Peninsula Restorative Justice society as a facilitator. Trying to balance part-time work, volunteering, family and serving as an Elder, Peter has a passion for local community connections and taking action on the opportunities God places before us.
SBF is led primarily through our Leadership Team and ministry leaders.
Currently our Leadership Team, the Elders, consists of Mark Price (Chair), Martin Vernon (Vice-Chair), Mark Chase (Secretary/Treasurer), Alan Taylor, Garry Sedun, Cathy Sakiyama, and Peter Ball. The church is governed by the SBF Society made up of the members of this board. The elders can be contacted via the church office.
As Pastor, Craig Murray is automatically a member of the Leadership Team. Our Director of Worship and Operations is Krista Chase who works collaboratively with the Leadership Team.
